Why Materials Matter

Durability

High-quality materials like Trex, TimberTech, and Azek are specifically engineered to withstand the harsh Atlantic weather conditions found in coastal Delaware. These premium composite products are designed to endure years of salt air, intense sun, and heavy rain without fading, cracking, or warping. When we build your deck, we ensure the structural foundation is just as durable as the surface boards

Longevity

Investing in premium decking materials provides a long-lasting return for your home. Unlike traditional wood that requires constant upkeep, our composite solutions resist the wear and tear of high-traffic outdoor living. By choosing Coastal Outdoor Living, you are ensuring that your deck or porch remains a beautiful, functional asset for decades, significantly outlasting cheaper wood alternatives.

Aesthetic Appeal

Quality materials maintain their rich color and realistic wood-grain texture over time. Whether you prefer the modern look of gray tones or the classic warmth of tropical hardwoods, our products stay vibrant without the need for constant staining or painting. Your outdoor space will look as beautiful ten years from now as it did the day we finished the installation.

Less Maintenance

Spend more time enjoying your backyard and less time working on it. With superior composite and PVC materials, you’ll never have to worry about sanding, splinters, or rotting wood. These products are built to resist stains and mold, requiring only a simple soap-and-water cleaning to keep your Long Neck or Lewes deck looking brand new.

Warranty Protection

As a certified installer for industry-leading brands, Coastal Outdoor Living provides more than just a beautiful build; we provide peace of mind. Our status allows us to offer exclusive manufacturer warranties that cover everything from fading to structural integrity. We stand behind our craftsmanship, and our partners stand behind their products.

Certified Expertise

Choosing a certified professional ensures your project is installed correctly the first time. Our team follows strict manufacturer guidelines and local Sussex County building codes to ensure your warranty remains valid. From precision ‘picture-framing’ to hidden fastener systems, our expertise guarantees a high-end finish that DIY or uncertified contractors simply cannot match.

Decks & Porches That Outlast the Competition

Our process includes joist protection and reinforced framing that goes far beyond standard building codes.

  • Custom Coastal Designs: Every project is tailored to your home’s specific architecture. Whether you need a multi-level entertainment deck or a quiet screened-in retreat, we design spaces that maximize your views and complement your lifestyle.

  • Licensed & Insured Experts: Rest easy knowing your home is in professional hands. Our expert team is fully licensed and insured, providing guaranteed craftsmanship that is backed by industry-leading manufacturer warranties for total peace of mind.

Engineered for Beauty & Durability

We build more than decks and porches—we create outdoor spaces that enhance your home and last for decades.

  • Low-Maintenance Living: We use high-performance composite decking from TimberTech and Trex that requires no staining, sealing, or painting—giving you more time to enjoy your backyard and less time maintaining it.

  • Seamless Aesthetic: Our hidden fastener systems ensure a sleek, modern look without visible screws, creating a barefoot-friendly surface that is as safe as it is beautiful.

  • Precision Finishing: Every cut matters. We utilize custom trim and picture-framed edges to hide raw board ends, ensuring a professional, architectural finish on every corner of your new deck.

  • Coastal Grade Materials: From stainless steel hardware to rot-resistant PVC, every component we select is chosen for its ability to resist the corrosive coastal environment and provide decades of service.

  • Year-Round Porch Options: Extend your outdoor season with our covered and screened-in porch solutions. We offer everything from open-air pavilions to fully enclosed 3-season rooms that protect you from the sun and coastal insects.

FAQs

What types of materials do you use for porches and decks?

Coastal Outdoor Living specializes in high-performance materials designed for the Delaware climate. While we offer natural hardwoods and pressure-treated wood, most of our clients choose Trex or TimberTech composite decking. These materials are engineered to resist fading, staining, and mold, making them the gold standard for low-maintenance outdoor living in Millsboro and Lewes. We help you compare the durability and aesthetics of each tier to find the perfect fit for your home.

Can you build a screened-in porch or a covered deck?

Absolutely. We are experts at creating versatile outdoor retreats, ranging from open-air covered decks to fully screened-in porches and 3-season rooms. Whether you want to escape the summer sun or keep coastal insects at bay, our designs seamlessly integrate with your home’s existing roofline. We use high-visibility screening and premium window systems from ProVia to ensure your porch is both functional and beautiful year-round.

Do I need a permit for a new porch or deck?

Yes, nearly all deck and porch construction in Sussex County, DE, and Worcester County, MD, requires a building permit. Navigating local zoning laws and HOA requirements can be a headache, which is why Coastal Outdoor Living handles the entire permitting process for you. We ensure your project meets all local building codes, setbacks, and structural requirements so you can enjoy your new space with total peace of mind.

Can you add features like lighting, railings, or built-in seating?

Customization is what sets our projects apart. We offer a wide array of integrated features, including LED post-cap lighting, recessed stair lights, and modern railing systems like horizontal cable or glass. We can also design and build custom benches, planter boxes, and outdoor kitchens that match your decking material, turning a simple deck into a fully functional outdoor living room.

How long does it take to build a porch or deck?

he timeline varies based on complexity, but most custom deck installations are completed within 5 to 10 days once construction begins. Porches and 3-season rooms are more involved and typically take 3 to 8 weeks depending on the inclusion of windows, electrical, or roofing. Please keep in mind that the initial planning and permitting phase generally adds another 3 to 4 weeks to the total project schedule.

Coastal enclosed my porch with glass windows so it is now a 3 season room. Although there were a couple glitches, coastal took care of everything. I am thrilled with the result and looking forward to using it all winter too due to the quality of the windows in keeping out wind and cold.
